Mission:

To provide Vocational training and Job placement services for young women who have been trafficked or at risk of being trafficked, so that they know Jesus cares about them in a real and practical way.

Objectives:

  • Partner with Aftercare shelters in Phnom Penh that provide education, accommodation, counselling and recovery programmes for girls that have been rescued from brothels.
  • Develop an initial training course in Hospitality (cake decoration, cafe skills, basic cookery, hygiene, workplace safety). Once it is established and sustainable, other training courses will be considered.
  • Ensure that all training leads to sustainable long term employment for each student either in external Job placements or Internal Business Programs.
  • Operate a cafe (Bloom) that gives girls on the job training and helps to generate income for long term sustainability.

Time Frame:

Murray and Ruth Larwill and their sons Tristan and Brodie will move to Phnom Penh in July 2009 to establish the Bloom Cafe & Training Centre. There are significant set- up costs and establishment work already underway, to be ready to launch in July 2009.

Estimated Costs:

Establishment cost – $56,000 (US) / 90,000 (AU) – 100% of our 2008 Christmas gift will go towards this.

An individually sponsored internship program is being established for girls as they begin employment.

Murray and Ruth will be supported through Gateway Beyond and will raise individual support for their ministry roles.

We expect there to be an annual operating cost of $30,000(AU) for Gateway Baptist.
