The protection of personal information is important to us at Gateway Baptist Church.
We are committed to protecting the privacy of the individual who has provided personal information to us during his or her contact with us.
Gateway Baptist Church has adopted the National Privacy Principles in compliance with Federal Legislation which came into force in December 2001 with regard to the collection, use, disclosure, quality and security of all personal information received by us.

What is Personal Information?

Personal information means information or an opinion whether true of not, whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent or can be reasonably ascertained.
Personal information collected at Gateway is usually basic everyday information such as name, address and phone number, and other information such as ministry giftings, life group membership, etc. We do not collect very sensitive information (eg. Racial/ethnic origin, criminal record, political beliefs, medical history, health status, etc).

Our Privacy Policy

We have developed this policy to protect your privacy in compliance with the National Privacy Principles.

Collection

We only collect personal information relevant to the functions of administration and in the course of assessing needs, determining requirements and providing appropriate services such as keeping in touch with and contacting people involved with or potentially involved with the church.
The giver of information needs to be informed as to who is collecting the information, the purpose for the collection of the information and that they can access this information.
Collection of information is essential for us to maintain and improve efficient contact and administration. Information may be collected verbally, on‐line or by the completion of forms such as visitor’s cards, census forms, cell group information forms, etc.

Use and Disclosure

Information will only be used for the primary purpose of administration. Personal information will only be passed on to those in leadership roles within the church such as pastoral, small group, etc.
No information will be disclosed to any other source without the consent of the individual.

Data Quality

Gateway Baptist Church will take reasonable steps to make sure that the personal information it collects, uses or discloses is accurate, complete and up‐to‐date and that reasonable steps are taken to protect personal information (in hard copy or electronic format) from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure.

Data Security

Gateway Baptist Church will take precautions to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, modification and disclosure.
Network access privileges are assigned to staff so that only staff performing specific administration functions have computerized access to the personal information required for that function. These privileges are reviewed regularly to determine if they are still appropriate.
Ministry leaders with access to personal information are made aware of these guidelines and restrictions.
Archivable material is stored in a secure and confidential environment.

If you wish to make an inquiry or complaint regarding the way in which we handle your personal information you can do so by writing, telephoning or faxing us or by sending email. You can access your own personal information by sending us a request.
